Refractory materials for cement kilns
He selection of refractory materials for various parts of cement kilns needs to be targeted according to the differences in working conditions such as temperature, chemical corrosion, and mechanical stress. The following are the material selection and technical points for the main parts:
One、Main part of rotary kiln
Firing zone‌
Basic refractories must be used, such as direct-bonded magnesia-chrome bricks, magnesia-iron spinel bricks, or dolomite bricks, which must exhibit high-temperature corrosion resistance and kiln lining resistance. New composite spinel bricks (such as magnesia-alumina spinel bricks) are becoming an alternative due to their enhanced corrosion resistance.
transition zone
We recommend using our company's newly developed materials: magnesia-alumina spinel + polycrystalline composite hollow sphere bricks or low-thermal-conductivity mullite bricks. These can reduce the cylinder temperature by 30-60°C and reduce the load by 5%-10%.
Magnesia-alumina spinel bricks or silica-mullite red bricks are also options, but the balance between thermal conductivity and lifespan must be considered.
Preheat zone/decomposition zone‌
‌Traditional high-alumina bricks or anti-stripping high-alumina bricks ((Al₂O₃ ≥70%) are mainly used, while new dry-process kiln silica-mud bricks ((Al₂O₃ >60%) are better in alkali resistance and thermal shock stability.
Cooling zone and kiln mouth
High-alumina bricks ((Al₂O₃  65%-75%) or corundum castables are used in high-temperature zones. Wear-resistant silicon carbide bricks are suitable for kiln openings with minimal deformation. Thermal shock-resistant materials, such as phosphate-bonded high-alumina bricks, are required in rapid cooling zones.
Two、Key parts of the accessory system
Tertiary air duct
Elbows and Y-shaped components require high-strength, alkali-resistant castables or wear-resistant prefabricated parts to resist erosion by dust-laden airflow.
Preheater/calciner
Use alkali-resistant castables in the low-temperature zone, anti-spalling high-alumina bricks or silica-mullite bricks in the high-temperature zone, and a refractory brick roof as an option.
Grate cooler
Use corundum-mullite castables in the quenching zone, and high-alumina bricks or spinel bricks in the heat recovery zone.
The raw materials used by our company are:Fused magnesia-alumina spinel AM65, High-density white fused alumina, Tabular alumina, Fused Mullite, Sintered Mullite, Reactive Alumina Powder,Calcined alumina powder,Fused Calcium Aluminate Cement, High Alumina cement, Polycrystalline Composite Hollow Spheres, and Dispersing Alumina.
