The use and testing standards for refractory materials are crucial for ensuring that they can withstand high temperatures, resist erosion, and maintain structural stability in practical applications. In terms of use, the selection of refractory materials must be based on specific operating conditions, such as temperature range, atmosphere (oxidizing or reducing), mechanical stress, and chemical erosion. Different furnaces and processes have different performance requirements for refractory materials, so targeted material selection and design are necessary.

 

Testing standards cover multiple dimensions, including refractoriness tests to measure the material's resistance to high-temperature melting; thermal shock resistance tests to evaluate the material's stability under rapid temperature changes; slag resistance tests to examine the material's resistance to molten slag; and tests of physical properties such as bulk density and porosity, all of which directly relate to the material's insulation effect and service life. In addition, there are chemical composition analysis and microscopic structure observation to comprehensively evaluate the overall performance of refractory materials. Various countries and industries have corresponding standards and regulations, such as China's GB and the US's ASTM, providing a scientific basis for the production, application, and quality testing of refractory materials.
